Cheri Buttars Professional Educator for the State of Utah Early Childhood Education (K-3) Elementary Education (1-8) Emphasis Social Studies Reading Endorsement English as a Second Language Endorsement
Welcome to 6th grade! Reading both informational and narrative texts, students will increase vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension skills. English Language Arts is the basic study of the English language through reading and writing. Students will learn grammar, mechanics, writing fluency, word usage, and spelling through writing assignments, use of textbooks, and in-class and home assignments. HOMEWORK: To improve and develop study habits and reinforce skills learned at school, please set aside 60 minutes a night for standard homework. Students are expected to work hard throughout the day. Any class work that is not completed then becomes homework. Nightly independent reading of 30 minutes or more is also required. Studying and preparing for tests is recommended.
ABSENCES/TARDY: School begins promptly at 8:20 A.M. If you are absent, extra copies of each assignment can be found on the side shelf underneath the written assignment on the white board. Check the board, write the assignment, gather any materials, complete and turn in the next day.
"OFFICE HOURS" If you have any questions or concerns, my office hours are 30 minutes before or after school or by appointment. Check the MLMS web page for teacher email access. Communication between school and home is important.
